With only two months to go until its release, the debut trailer for Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln has finally hit the web, and for history and film buffs everywhere, it looks about as majestic as you can imagine. Based off of the book by Doris Kearns Goodwin, titled Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln, this biopic seems to deal exclusively with the 16th President’s struggles during the Civil War.

As you may have guessed, Daniel Day-Lewis looks spot-on in the role of Honest Abe. We don’t get much in the way of dialogue from him, but what little we do get gives us the confidence that he will pull this off seamlessly. We also get looks at Tommy Lee Jones, Sally Field, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt throughout the trailer as this cast seems to be fully buying in to the vision of the movie.

This trailer is more about mood, though, and here, in typical Spielberg fashion, we get a romantic look at the 1860’s with some gorgeous cinematography and sweeping music. There are a few parts of this trailer that seem a little too sentimental, but Spielberg usually knows when to drop the hammer. As long as he shows us the honest, ugly side of society at the time, as well as the inspirational side of Lincoln, this movie can be a genuine hit.

Lincoln will be released in limited theaters on November 9 before opening wide on November 16.
