When Nintendo announced that Bayonetta 2 existed—and would be a Wii U exclusive—a bunch of Bayonetta fans basically lost their minds. Their tweets provided us with some grotesque entertainment, but on the whole their reaction was nothing less than shameful.

Now Platinum Games' executive director Atsushi Inaba has confirmed our suspicions: "Would Bayonetta 2 not exist without Nintendo?" he asked Polygon. "The answer is yes."

"We are not viewing this as a change of platform," Inaba said. "We were looking for a partner to create Bayonetta 2 and Nintendo was a strong, cooperative partner that was willing to create and grow Bayonetta 2together [with us]. As a result the platform became the Wii U."

He added that the change of platform hasn't affected their development, since the framework for their games exists first on PC, and that they're "putting extra thought" into how best to use the Wii U GamePad.

So how do you feel about Bayonetta 2's Wii U exclusivity now?
