The next X-Men movie finally has its director locked in. According to ComingSoon, producer of X-Men: First Class and director of X-Men and X2, Bryan Singer, is officially locked in to helm the upcoming sequel, which has been revealed to be titled X-Men: Days of Future Past. Subsequently, Matthew Vaughn, who directed First Class, will move into a producer role.

As for the film, it was scripted by Simon Kinberg, and is said to follow what was written by Chris Claremont and John Byrne back in 1981 for Uncanny X-Men, issues #141 and #142. In that plot arc, things more or less revolve around an alternate future where all mutants are hunted down by Sentinel robots that rule the country.

Days of Future Past is set to hit theaters on July 18. 2014.
