Ain't no love in the heart of the city for Mitt Romney. Fifty-nine voting districts in Philadelphia have offered results indicating that not a single vote was cast for Romney. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the unofficial count was 19,605 votes for President Obama and zero for Mitt Romney. The support for Obama was prominent in West and North Philadelphia neighborhoods that are predominantly black.
The results have prompted claims of voter fraud. Republicans in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives spokesman Steve Miskin spoke about the party's voter ID initiative when he heard the results. "We believe we need to continue ensuring the integrity of the ballot,” Miskin said. Larry Sabato, a political scientist at the University of Virginia, said, "I’d be surprised if there weren’t a handful of precincts that didn’t cast a vote for Romney, but the number of zero precincts in Philadelphia deserves examination."
Not only were votes for Romney missing, but Republicans were in general. The City Board of Elections claimed some registered voters were Republicans, but when approached by the Inquirer, they said they were Democrats. 19-year-old James Norris and 42-year-old Eric Sapp are both listed as Republicans (much to their surprise), but voted for President Obama.
