Good start for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the film has already pulled in an impressive $13 million from midnight showings on Thursday night alone, making it the best opening so far this December. Additionally, that number easily surpasses the opening of Jackson's Lord of the Rings in 2003, which earned about $8 million from midnight showings.

At this rate, early predictions have the film earning anywhere between $75 million to $90 million this weekend, which could possibly make it the best December opening of all time if it surpasses 2007's I Am Legend record of $77.2 million.
