The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has, as expected, set another record. Only a day after surpassing 2007's I Am Legend for the biggest Friday box office haul in the month of December, Deadline is reporting that the film has broken the record for biggest December opening ever, with $84.7 million earned domestically and $138.2 million earned internationally.

This brings the film's total, worldwide earnings to a whopping $233 million - a number that's only expected to grow in the coming weeks with the holidays approaching.  The film has also received an 'A' CinemaScore from viewers.

As for the rest of the box office, second and third place were taken by Rise of the Guardians and Lincoln, respectively.
