After bringing in $80 million at the box office on a minuscule budget, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy became a surprise hit for StudioCanal, and when you add in the countless critical accolades the film racked up around the globe, the movie was easily one of 2011’s biggest success stories. Now, in an interview with Collider, producer Eric Fellner has revealed that a sequel to the movie is in the works.

When asked about the status of the follow-up, Fellner said “We are working on another one. [Producer]Tim Bevan is putting it together as we speak with [screenwriter]Peter Straughan and Tomas Alfredson, so yes it’s in development.”

The site is reporting that any sequel would likely be based on John le Carre’s final novel in the “Karla Trilogy,” titled Smiley’s People. It revolves around George Smiley being called out of retirement again to investigate the death of one of his former agents. As long as Gary Oldman returns as Smiley, we're in.
