According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Brian De Palma has signed on to helm a movie about disgraced Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, titled Happy Valley. The movie will star Al Pacino as Paterno, and it will be based on the best-selling book by sports journalist Joe Posnanski, simply titled Paterno.
“Happy Valley reunites the Scarface and Carlito’s Way team of De Palma and Pacino for the third time, and I can’t think of a better duo to tell this story of a complex, intensely righteous man who was brought down by his own tragic flaw,” producer Edward R. Pressman said in a statement.
The book follows the span of Paterno’s entire life – from coach to legend to scandal. Writer David McKenna (American History X) is currently in talks to script the film.
