After we reported that Texas Chainsaw 3D beat both The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Django Unchained at the box office on Friday, Coming Soon has now confirmed that the low-budget horror sequel managed to take the top spot for the entire weekend by pulling in $23 million. This is obviously a good sign for the future of the franchise at Lionsgate, and you can probably expect more horror remakes and Texas Chainsaw sequels in the future.

Coming in second place was Django Unchained with another $20.1 million added to its gross, for an overall total of $106.5 million. Meanwhile, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey brought in $17.5 million, which brings its total to $263.8 million domestic and $825 million worldwide.

Rounding out the top five was Les Miserables and Parental Guidance with $16.2 and $10.1 million, respectively. This brings Les Mis to a $103.6 million total and Parental Guidance to a surprisingly-stout $52.7 million gross, thus far. And you mocked everyone that said Billy Crystal had another comeback in him, didn’t you?
