Can Bethesda dominate the MMO space the way they have with single-player RPGs? We have no idea, but we might get a clue once the The Elder Scrolls Online beta kicks off. And registration opened today, so if you want to get an early look at the action, you can sign up at elderscrollsonline.com.

They also released a new trailer today, called "The Alliances." Hm. Maybe this massive battle will make sense to veteran Elder Scrolls fans—being the Morrowind diehards that we are, we thought that would apply to us, but apparently not, since right now this trailer looks like six minutes of generic fantasy fighting.

Here's the official description:

Tamriel is at war. Three alliances—the Aldmeri Dominion, Daggerfall Covenant, and Ebonheart Pact—square off for control of The Imperial City. The time to vow your allegiance is swiftly approaching, as the official sign-up for The Elder Scrolls Online beta program begins today. If selected, you will be one of the first people to embark upon the newest Elder Scrolls adventure, and help us beta test The Elder Scrolls Online.

So what do you think? Will Bethesda have a winner with The Elder Scrolls Online?
