7-Eleven Won't Sell Controversial Rolling Stone Issue

As the debate over the cover continues, 7-Eleven has taken a side.

7-Eleven has joined the growing list of retailers who will not sell the controversial Rolling Stone issue bearing the face of accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. The public has been extremely critical of the cover, claiming it makes Tsarnaev look like some sort of teen heartthrob.

Yesterday, a spokeswoman wrote an email to the New York Daily News saying: “7-Eleven, Inc.’s position is to NOT sell the Aug. 1 issue of ‘Rolling Stone.’ We are communicating to all our US stores that our company-operated outlets will not sell this issue and we are strongly recommending that our franchised stores consider doing likewise."

The decision has drawn support from customers. “Thank you for making the moral & patriotic corporate decision to not stock or sell the upcoming vulgar issue of the entertainment magazine ‘Rolling Stone,’” wrote one customer on 7-Eleven's Facebook page

In addition to 7-Eleven, Walgreens, CVSTedeschi Food Stores, grocery chain Roche Bros. and Stop & Shop have all agreed to boycott the sale of the issue. Tsarnaev, 19, has been indicted for his role in the Apr. 15 bombings that claimed the lives of three people and injured over 260. He's also been charged for the shooting death of MIT police officer Sean Collier. Last week, he pleaded not guilty.

Rolling Stone's editors have defended their decision to place Tsarnaev on the cover.
