Dexter may be coming to an end next month after eight seasons on the air, but that doesn't mean we've seen the last of the series forever. According to EW, Showtime is still very seriously considering a spinoff based on the series, and have even already signed a two-year development deal with showrunner Scott Buck.
The possibility of a spinoff was hinted at during the TCA yesterday, by none other than Showtime's entertainment president David Nevins. It's not clear if he's referring to the previously rumored spinoff that would center on Jennifer Carpenter's character Deb, but it's a promising statement nonetheless. From Deadline:

Afterwards, Nevins clarified that nothing is actually in the works yet, and "we are really not dealing with it at all until we are through with this season and maybe a while thereafter...there are always things that can be done. We have a deal with Scott and we are going to talk to a bunch of different things with him. I don’t know anything. There is nothing real. There’s no sense of whether it will happen, if it will happen, but I want to stay in business with Scott."
It makes sense that nothing would be officially announced, at least until after the finale: Confirming any future possibilities would be like confirming that a character is officially going to survive the series finale, and there's no way the network is going to do that. So, though it looks like the show may really carry on after Dexter officially hangs up his butcher's knife and runs out of saran wrap this September, if a Deb spinoff is in the works, we won't be hearing about it for a while.
