Meet the Nokia Lumia 1020: a Smartphone Packed with a 41 MP Camera

A whole lotta pixel for your buck.

Nokia just dropped its latest device, and it's coming with more megapixels than you can shake a stick at.

The 1020's primary feature (and it's a pretty big one), is the camera. Packing 41-megapixels, the 1020 has Xenon flash, an ultralarge sensor paired with six-lens Carl Zeiss optics for wide angle, high detail shots. Worried about uploading those large photos to social media? The 1020 saves an easily sharable 5-megapixel image, with each pixel in that image representing 7-megapixels of the original image. This means when you share the compressed image to the web from the phone (rather than the high-res one), you'll still be able to retain a lot of the detail. Users will also be able to control other things like white balance and exposure in real-time from the camera's screen using the Pro Camera app—which is being released for the Lumia 920, 925 and 928, too. In order to get those high-res pictues off the 1020, though, users will have to connect it to a computer to transfer.

Its screen comes in at 4.5 inches, and runs at 1280 x 768; storage-wise, the phone has 32 GB of internal memory and 2 GB of RAM. Outside of the camera, the phone itself seems standard like a standard Windows phone, with no other features truly of note other than its Pro Camera app. Yet, this smartphone's camera is enough to make some point-and-shoot camera makers a little nervous.

The Lumia 1020 is coming out next week for AT&T at a price of $299 with two-year contract.
