Looks like the persistent questions Oprah Winfrey asked Lee Daniels during the filming of Lee Daniels' The Butler paid off: Judging by this, Oprah's acting chops are just as they were in 1985 when she was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in The Color Purple.
In this new clip from the film, we're introduced to Oprah's character Gloria Gaines, who is hosting a few friends in the home she shares with her husband, Cecil Gaines (Forest Whitaker). After she shares the secret for a great potato salad—she read in Woman's Day that pickles take away the flavor, while dill brings it out—the subject of Cecil's new job as butler at the White House comes up in conversation. Cecil is urged to share some secrets about the presidents and his job, despite being sworn to secrecy. Also appearing in the scene is Terrence Howard, who plays the Gaines' neighbor, and, eventually, Gloria's lover.
As a whole, the film is based on the life of real-life White House head butler Eugene Allen, who worked at the White House for three decades and through eight presidencies before his death in 2010.
Lee Daniels' The Butler is set to hit theaters nationwide on August 16th.
