Microsoft has just remixed its Surface RT tablet: they've polished and refined it with a new coat of paint, and it's all set for preorder starting tomorrow from the Microsoft website.
Last year, Microsoft released the Surface RT and Surface Pro tablets, with the RT failing to impress virtually anyone, and the Pro proving to be the more popular of the two (but far more expensive than other tablets on the market.) Now, with the Surface 2—which the company announced today with an event in New York City—Microsoft has taken the criticisms of the first Surface tablet and have made a valiant effort to make Surface, for lack of a better word, cool.
Now, the Surface 2 tablet is thinner, lighter and faster. It comes with a quad-core Nvidia Tegra processor, which can handle more apps and multitasking, but also juices up the tablets 10.6-inch, 1080p screen. Photos have improved, and the tablet now comes with a 5 MP rear camera and a 3.5 MP front-facing camera. The kickstand has been tweaked, and you can lock it in at two different angles, one for your desk, and one for your lap. Also, it now comes in a sleek silver color, instead of just black. The 32 GB Surface 2 starts off at $449.
The new Surface Pro 2 comes with the full version of Windows 8.1, can be upgraded to 512 GB, and comes in at $899. The Surface Pro 2 reworked its battery power, and reportedly can go for 8 to 10 hours on a charge, depending on what you're doing.
The new tablets officially go on sale Oct. 22.
