September has arrived and Labor Day Weekend is just about over, meaning that the summer is all but done. There are still about three weeks left until the season officially changes, but "meteorological summer" (June through August) is over, and it was pretty warm. With an average temperature of 75.7 degrees, this was the 27th warmest summer in New York City since 1869. That can be credited to the heat wave in July.
There were five days this summer where the temperature exceeded the average by ten degrees and one when it was ten degrees below the norm; since the heatwave wrapped on Jul. 21, the average daily high has been about a degree above normal and the low has been right on average.
Enjoy the summer weather for a few more weeks before officially bidding it farewell until 2014, save for any unseasonably warm fall days.
