Homeland's currently closing out its third season with a sure-to-be twisty season finale, but over on FOX Family Guy dropped a bombshell that's sure to take up some of the post TV Twitter talk: Brian's back!

Tonight's episode, "Christmas Guy," featured Stewie manipulating time travel yet again—he spots his past self using his time machine to go into the future and buy a toy for himself, and steals it from himself to go back in time and save Brian. This development comes just two episodes after Brian got hit by a car and was replaced with new dog Vinny, shaking the entire Family Guy fanbase out of their comfort zone. (Because of the altered timeline, Vinny's gone and the family doesn't remember him.)

Fans who were quite moved by Brian's death are already charging Seth MacFarlane with trolling offenses, while others are just happy to have Brian back. For what it's worth, Family Guy executive producer Steve Callaghan was mysteriously cagey when E!spoke to him about Brian's death:

E!: Killing off Brian is a really big shocker. Are you worried about the backlash from longtime Family Guy fans?
Callaghan: I'm not, only because our fans are smart enough and have been loyal to our show for long enough, to know that they can trust us. We always make choices that always work to the greatest benefit of the series.

Are you happy to have the Griffin's boozing Labrador back or did you find the two week bait-and-switch manipulative?

And thus endeth our warm, fuzzy holiday lesson: Never take those you love for granted, for they can be gone in a flash.
I mean, you didn't really think we'd kill off Brian, did you? Jesus, we'd have to be fucking high.
Oh and hey... thanks for caring so much about the canine Griffin. He is overcome with gratitude.
