"The Vanishing Of Ethan Carter" Is Looking Damn Sharp

Watch out for these gifs. (They're big.)

More non-news continues to trickle out for The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, the surreal murder mystery adventure game from former Bulletstorm developer Adrian Chmielarz's new team The Astronauts. The indie developer released three new high-res gifs of their upcoming PC (and hopefully next-gen) title, and given that the game is being built on Unreal 4, it looks pretty f#$&ing stunning.

Little is known about the game at this point – The Astronauts have said it's a first-person experience (entirely without combat) that focuses on solving murder mysteries that seem to tie into the main narrative (which is still shrouded in secrecy). The gifs on the team's website do little to resolve any questions you may have thus far, showing some all-too-brief exploratory scenes of a mountain path, a cemetary and what looks like some kind of hallunicated or past shadow of a train (which someone may or may not have been murdered by).

Bulletstorm was arguably one of the most surprisingly interesting modern interpretations of the FPS genre. Chmielarz split with People Can Fly  to make what looks like a totally non-commercial style game, so expect big things from Ethan Carter as we get closer to its as-of-yet-unannounced 2014 release.
