A petty argument about the proper way to slice barbecue ended with a man beating a friend to death.

The incident took place Saturday night at the Jacksonville, Fla. home of 31-year-old Joshua Andrew Heinz, where 35-year-old Alvin Kenneth "Chico" Welch Jr. and others were watching football. Welch was in the process of assembling a "to-go" plate, when he and Heinz started arguing about how to carve the food.

As the tension mounted, Welch reportedly struck Heinz in the head with a bat. He passed away later at the hospital. Welch, who Assistant Police Chief Chris Butler said took the bat and fled, was arrested on Wednesday.
