In a much anticipated talk at Valve's Developer Days, it was expected for the software innovator and company behind the Steam game service and Steam Machinesto announced a new virtual reality headset. Instead, it has thrown its weight behind the Oculus Rift. Even though Oculus Rift creator Palmer Luckey called Valve's VR work “the best virtual reality demo in the world right now.”

In a panel titled “What VR Could, Should, and Almost Certainly Will Be Within Two Years.” Valve representatives discussed the coming support for virtual reality through Steam, its own programing system called SteamVR and that while it will continue to work on its own VR tests, it's not planning to release it anytime soon. It was also revealed that Valve and Oculus have partnered to work on the latest version of the Oculus Rift headset, majestically dubbed the Crystal Cove, and its new tracking camera.
