Better safe than sorry.

If you're part of the tiny minority of people who still use Yahoo, you may have inadvertently subjected your computer to malware over the past few days.

According to security researchers at Fox IT, Yahoo's ad network servers have been infected by a malicious exploit that takes advantage of holes in Java. Users in Romania, France, and the UK appear to have been most susceptible to the malware, which is so far believed to have accessed as many as 300,000 devices per hour and infected as many as 27,000 per hour. "It is unclear which specific group is behind this attack, but the attackers are clearly financially motivated and seem to offer services to other actors," the Fox IT team wrote.

Yahoo has yet to publicly acknowledge the attack but there's been a decline in its spread, suggesting that the former search leader may have begun repairing the vulnerability. Beware.
