Director Adam McKay Says "Anchorman 3" Won't Be Happening

Is this the end of Ron Burgundy?

After one of the most aggressive marketing campaigns in recent memory, Anchorman 2 hit theaters late last year to pretty positive critical acclaim and a $165+ million box office gross. Those numbers are nothing to be ashamed of, but it might not have been enough to keep the series alive.

In an interview with Empire, Anchorman director Adam McKay had this to say about a potential third installment: “It’s done. I think that’s it. It was great to do it and it was so fun to work with those guys again, but I think that’s it for Ron Burgundy.”

This is devastating news for fans hoping that the sequel would earn enough to immediately green light a third movie. It looks like this isn't the case here. And if that wasn’t enough, McKay also threw some cold water on any hopes of a Step Brothers 2 as well.

When the notion came up of McKay and Will Ferrell revisiting Anchorman a decade down the road, he said, “I’m going to say definitely no. I’ll actually say it in this case!”

Things certainly don’t look good for the future of our favorite mustachioed news anchor.
