You might not know this, but B.J. Novak is going to play a role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Since production started, this casting decision has been mainly forgotten in favor of news about Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn, Jamie Foxx as Electro, Paul Giamatti as The Rhino, and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn. However, now director Marc Webb has taken to Twitter to finally reveal who Novak will be playing in the highly-anticipated sequel:

Almost shot ASM2 in B+W til @bjnovak's (A. Smythe) promo for his excellent book ONE MORE THING beat me to it: http://t.co/axmFgum6fJ

A. Smythe is obviously Alistair Smythe, a longtime villain of the Web Head who is most famous for his recurring role in Fox’s Spider-Man: The Animated Series from the ‘90s. In the comics, Alistair is the son of Spencer Smythe, the man who created the robotic Spider Slayers. He later picks up where his father left off, creating armies of Slayers designed to specifically go after Spider-Man.

With three villains, plus the presence of Norman Osborn, already confirmed for the movie, don’t expect Alistair to unleash an army of robots any time soon. However, Novak’s version of Smythe could easily be an OsCorp scientist who creates all sorts of villainous technology that helps the Osborn family bring down Peter Parker.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters on May 2.
