CVS to Stop Selling Tobacco Products

The company will instead focus more on health care.

By the fall, CVS Caremark will cease to sell tobacco products at all locations.

The Associated Press reports that, as of Oct. 1, the second-largest drugstore chain in the nation will no longer carry cigarettes, chewing tobacco or cigars at its over 7,600 locations across the nation. CVS feels this move will allow the company to further diversify its health care efforts such as clinics where pharmacists provide flu shots and more.

According to CEO Larry Merlo, selling cigarettes at locations where it also provided health care was a conflict that had to be addressed.

Though the move will cost CVS roughly $2 billion in revenue, the company is confident that it will bolster its health care business.
