Activision has confirmed plans for a Destiny beta this summer. During a company investor call yesterday Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg announced the company's summer beta window ahead of the Destiny release date on September 9. Destiny was previously set to release in the spring.

Hirshberg emphasized the importance of the upcoming release “could be Activision Publishing's third billion-dollar franchise, and we're working hard to make it the biggest new IP [intellectual property] launch in video game history.”

"Together, we are bringing gamers an ambitious and innovative game which combines the intensity of great first-person action, with the character investment and social connections of an RPG in an immense connected universe. We believe the game is on track to deliver record pre-orders for a new franchise, a public beta is planned for summer and we expect to launch the game on September 9," added Hirshberg.

In previous statements Activision said that Destiny will beta on the PlayStation systems first to be followed by Xbox One and grandpa Xbox 360. Right now the only announced way to get into the beta is by pre-ordering, and as the game has record pre-orders, may be the only way in.
