Final Fantasyseries producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed in an interview with VideoGamer that Final Fantasy XVis “quite far into development.”

“We can’t give too much information but certainly looking at Final Fantasy XV, it’s not as if it’s in competition with Kingdom Hearts III for resources or anything like that,” Kitase told VideoGamer. “It’s quite far into development now and it is being given a very high priority...”

Besides that details are pretty scarce. Kitase hits at using the capabilities of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to increase the number to AI controlled teammates and to further enhance the battle system.

“In the first two of the XIII series you had the Paradigm Shift system with AI controlled teammates which lends itself very well to having lots of characters,” Kitase said. “Or maybe having even deeper customization, something that harks back to say the Gambit System in Final Fantasy XII.”

In an interview last year about Lightning ReturnsKitase said that with each new generation of console the development time was increasing, this latest next-gen console came at a time when the Final Fantasy team felt like they had really utilized all of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Square Enix first revealed Final Fantasy XV last year at the Tokyo Game Show.
