Legendary game developer Cliff Bleszinski, best known for creating the Gears of Warseries but who also worked on some of the best first-person shooter games ever – Unreal, teased at his plans to create a new first-person arena shooter and why he's building it for the people.

Bleszinski left Epic Games in late 2012 where he had been a staple for two decades and just announced late last year that he's planning to develop a first-person arena shooter for PC. In an interview with Gamasutra he explained why he's not interesting in the usual big-budget model of making games: “the whole 'old guard,' where you get a Game Informer cover and an E3 reveal, is dead,” he said. Instead he's setting his sights on the PC and the communities that support PC games like Minecraft.

"PC is where I'm going to wind up. That's where the community is," continued Bleszinski. "The trend will always be the core. If I start a studio, I want a community manager there day one.”

As for community Bleszinski defines it like this: “your game is as good as how many YouTube videos it can yield.” he said. “Get a game out there and build it. Some kid will put out a video. Players will teach each other. You don't need the 'press A to jump.'”

Oh Cliffy B! Let's hope he continues this out-of-the-box thinking that brought us the majesty of the chainsaw gun into his next title.

As for the future of Gears of War, Microsoft recently announced that it had plucked the franchise from Epic Games after the developer didn't have any grand ambitious to continue the franchise. Expect lots of Gears from Microsoft in the future.
