At the 2014 Mobile World Congress, Mozilla revealed their $25 smartphone prototype. It was built to give users an affordable choice to the pricey smartphones on the market today. Cool, right? Almost. They seemed to have only focused on the price point and neglected the functionality of the phone.
In collaboration with chip partner Spreadtrum, Mozilla's new phone will run the latest version of Firefox OS with a 3.5-inch, 320 x 480 display, 2-megapixel camera and no 3G connectivity. Users can access YouTube, take photos, and use the web, but because of the insanely slow Internet speed, users will most likely opt out of using any of the functions except making calls and sending texts.
The phone is still in its building stages, which means there is room for improvement. However, having to stay within such a tight budget will definitely make the process a lot more difficult.
