Warner Brothers' "Sandman" Adaptation Scores A Screenwriter

And it's someone from outside of the genre.

While Warner Brothers might own superheroes like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, it also has access to DC’s wide array of characters who don’t don the spandex every month. And no property exemplifies DC’s diversity more than Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series. Focusing on the god of the dreaming, Morpheus, and his peculiar family, Sandman is far and away one of the most critically acclaimed comic books of all time. Of course this also means that it was only a matter of time before Warner Bros. put a movie version into production.

With Joseph Gordon-Levitt already on board to produce and perhaps direct the film, the studio seems committed to getting Morpheus on the big screen soon. So soon, in fact, that Deadline is reporting that the studio has hired Jack Thorne to write the script for the movie, which is based on a pitch by David Goyer.

Thorne doesn’t have a body of work within the comic book/fantasy genre; instead, he’s the man behind works such as How I Live Now and This is England, which earned him a BAFTA for best serial drama. He may be an unknown to many in the States, but at 35 he has already achieved some big success in England, where Sandman creator Neil Gaiman just happens to be from. Don’t think his influence isn’t present here.
