Authorities Seize 240 Pounds of Cocaine from Boat in Staten Island

Nice try, smugglers.

A large quantity of cocaine was seized from a boat in Staten Island, authorities say.

The New York Post reports that 240 pounds of cocaine were stashed inside of a shipment of beer destined for Canada. The Post adds that 100 bricks were discovered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents and the New York Border Enforcement Task Force during a normal inspection in Mariner's Harbor.

The bricks, which were stored inside of bags, came falling out during the inspection. Authorities conducted field tests, and the substance tested positive for cocaine. The Post notes that the estimated value of the drugs is about $5 million.

As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities will work to identify the smugglers.
