Last night, a 5.1-magnitude earthquake that lasted for about 30 seconds ripped through Los Angeles, sending "at least" five aftershocks between 2.7 and 3.6.
According to the Associated Press, the earthquake—which struck around 9:09 p.m.—was based near Brea, Calif. in Orange County (just 20 miles southeast of downtown L.A.) with a depth of roughly five miles. Citizens responses by the U.S. Geological Survey show that it was felt as far as San Diego to the south, and Ventura County to the north.
The Associated Press adds that water main breaks, a rockslide, gas leaks and broken glass were all reported. Furthermore, Southern California Edison reported over 2,000 power outages as a result of the earthquake.
This comes nearly two weeks after a 4.4-magnitude quake struck Los Angeles. It was the largest earthquake to hit the area since the aftershocks of the 1994 Northridge earthquake.
