The measles outbreak in New York City originally reported in the Bronx and upper parts of Manhattan has made its way to the Lower East Side, officials say.
NBC New York reports that a total of 25 cases have been confirmed: 12 children; 13 adults. The original cases emerged in Washington Heights and Inwood in Manhattan, as well as High Bridge, Central Bronx and Morrisania. Though Brooklyn case was eventually confirmed, the most recent cases popped up on the Lower East Side.
Officials are investigating the origin, considering medical facilities as possibilities. In a recent statement, Health Commissioner Mary Bassett implored anyone who thinks they may have been infected to reach out to their medical provider before visiting a facility.
Officials also urge anyone over the age of 12 to get vaccinated if they haven't been already.
