Avatar did so damn well in the box office that it earned not one, not two, but three sequels off of the strength of a single movie. James Cameron, the man who dreamt up the story and directed the film did an AMA on Reddit recently and revealed the status of the upcoming movies.

“The second, third and fourth films all go into production simultaneously,” Cameron said. “They’re essentially all in pre-production now because we are designing creatures, settings and characters that span all three films. And we should be finished with all three scripts within the next, I would say, six weeks.”

There you have it. Six weeks away from getting the movies groundwork in place. Cameron wrote the first film himself, the sequels will have help from Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver and Shane Salerno. A funny thing revealed by Cameron is that even he has the headache of budget ceilings.

“The biggest pressure I feel right now is cutting out things I love to get the film down to a length that is affordable,” he said.

Avatar 2 is slated to hit theaters December 2016.
