According to Variety, New Regency is in talks with director Justin Kurzel to helm its upcoming adaptation of the Ubisoft video game series, Assassin’s Creed. If this comes to fruition, Kurzel will be reuniting with star Michael Fassbender on the movie, who he also directed in the upcoming adaptation of Macbeth, alongside Marion Cotillard. Sources have told Variety that it was Fassbender who personally campaigned for Kurzel to land the job.

The Assassin’s Creed game series follows a man who relives the memories of his ancestors, who were all part of the Knights Templar throughout various times in history. The film’s script is being rewritten by Michael Lesslie, but it’s unclear which of the series’ seven installments the plot of the movie will focus on.
