Over the weekend a Microsoft-backed effort to unearth the long-buried E.T. - The Extraterrestrial Atari 2600 game got underway and Microsoft spokesman Major Nelson was on hand to get dusty and wax poetic about the trash.

While it was known at the time that Atari buried the failed, ill-conceived game, years of not addressing the issue made the cover-up of Atari's failures something of an urban legend.

E.T. Was widely considered the worst game ever made, and while that may not be entirely true, it's probably the worst major released title in history and certainly didn't help the perception that game companies were just pushing out trash.

What do you think? Ever played this confusing, virtually impossible game?
