Now Hugh Jackman isn’t so sure that he will be stepping away from the Wolverine character.

It was only a few weeks ago that Hugh Jackman proclaimed that the next Wolverine movie would be his last as the iconic mutant. Now the actor has backtracked on those claims during an interview with The Associated Press (via Yahoo!).

During the interview, Jackman relented, “I think I might have overplayed my hand a little bit by saying I'm almost sure that the next one will be my last.”

He’s non-committal here, but this could mean that in addition to starring in the next solo Wolverine movie, Jackman could also be back for 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse. Obviously nothing is confirmed yet, but Jackman seems more invested than ever in the character. And with Fox now putting the focus on quality for these X-Men movies, perhaps Jackman is willing to stick around a bit longer.

X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters on May 23.
