Sorry Andre 3000, this one is authorized by the Jimi Hendrix estate. Anthony Mackie's (Captain America, The Hurt Locker) Jimi biopic was announced this weekend at the Cannes Film Festival. The script has actually been in the works for years, but fell through four years ago when Hendrix's family objected -- Jimi deals with the last nine days of his life.
It was originally supposed to be called Crosstown Traffic with director Paul Greengrass (Captain Phillips) attached, but there's no word on whether he's still involved. Thandie Newton will costar, as well as Noomi Rapace.
