The newly-released Wolfenstein: The New Order is the first Wolfenstein game to ever be released in Germany. Naturally, since any mention or use of the Nazi party, iconography or other associated elements is illegal in the country, some censorship changes had to be made for the game to be sold. Eurogamer put out a video compiling some of these, which is an interesting look for people who don't live in Germany (there's also a little bit of history for WWII buffs, not that that's really a selling point in this context.)
At any rate, The New Order basically survives intact, which perhaps makes it a progressive leap forward for Germany's take on video games. But since the game is still everything you'd expect from Wolfenstein, maybe the decision to release it isn't actually very culturally progressive at all. You can decide.
