If you bought Corey Stoll stock after his breakout performance in House of Cards (or even earlier, if you saw his version of Ernest Hemmingway in Midnight in Paris), you are going to be very happy.

The actor has continued his meteoric rise by being cast in Season 4 of Homeland as a CIA operative in Pakistan. According to a Showtime press release today, “Stoll will guest star as ‘Sandy Bachman,’ the CIA Chief of Station in Pakistan and a rising star in the Agency's firmament.”

It sounds seemingly inevitable that Stoll and Claire Danes’ Carrie Mathison will be butting heads repeatedly, with poor Saul Berenson somehow caught in the middle. The release says that the fourth season “will find Carrie assigned to one of the most volatile and dangerous CIA stations in the Middle East where she is back on the front lines in the war on terror.”

While we may quibble with the logic of putting a pregnant woman so blatantly in harm's way, Homeland has ceased to be bound by the constraints of realism. That train left the station right around the time they killed the Vice President by using an Blackberry to make his pacemaker malfunction.

Production begins later this month, and the show is scheduled to air this fall.
