There was a rumor going around the Internet earlier today claiming that the reason Universal delayed the next Bourne movie until 2016 was to accommodate Matt Damon for a return to the franchise. People were obviously excited because, well, the series hasn’t had the same buzz ever since Jeremy Renner took over in 2012.

Unfortunately it seems like those rumors were unfounded as producer Frank Marshall had this to say to The Hollywood Reporter: "It's simply not true.” He continued, “[Director]Justin Lin is working with Andrew Baldwin on an Aaron Cross script/story that they pitched us a few months ago. I talk to Justin all the time and the script is not ready. It's a summer movie, and if we don't start preproduction now, we can't make next summer. Therefore, it's a wise decision to move to 2016."

Making a 2015 release date would have been tough, so this reasoning does hold weight. It could also be possible that Marshall is just trying to throw people off the trail, but that’s really unlikely. It looks like Jeremy Renner will have to do for now.
