Nintendo has announced that the Wii U's Mario Kart 8 has sold 2 million copies worldwide in the first month of the game's release. The news comes from the big N on the occasion of their 74th annual shareholders meeting, which happened earlier this week (and where president Satoru Iwata was also re-elected to continue guiding the company for the forseeable future).

With this news, it seems that Wii U sales numbers have perhaps started to pick up – although it's practically a (colloquial) given that everyone who owns the console now also owns Mario Kart 8. Could the tide be turning for Nintendo? We'll likely find out as the year progresses with the release of Super Smash Bros. and other big series releases. But it's a boon to their immediate fortune – "Leave luck to heaven," as the company name means – to be sure.
