After years of debate, New York has finally reached a deal for medical marijuana. The New York Timesreports that Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced a pilot program to allow access for New Yorkers in need of weed. The deal makes New York one of the most populous states to legalize medical marijuana and marks another landmark win for marijuana advocates.

Even so, there are a number of limitations to the proposed bill. For one, the drug will only be available to people that suffer from a set list of diseases, among them AIDS, multiple sclerosis, cancer, and epilepsy, which means that your "back pain" won't get you dank chronic like it does in California. Furthermore, New York will only allow vapor and oil-based forms of the drug, meaning the actual plant (i.e. the stuff pictured above) will remain illegal

Even with these stipulations, however, the news if further evidence of the changing tide surrounding marijuana policy in the U.S. Now, the bill just has to pass the state legislature.
