Marvel and DC may have all the household names under their umbrellas, but it’s hard to deny that Image Comics is the best comic publisher in the country. In addition to standout titles like The Walking Dead, Saga, Prophet, Chew, and Zero, one of the company’s most acclaimed books this year has been Rat Queens, by Kurtis Weibe and Roc Upchurch. The book is a dark comic fantasy that follows four raucous female adventurers who go around killing any monsters or beasts that stand up to them.

Now, according to Variety, the series is being turned into an animated TV series by WETA Workshop’s Pukeko Pictures and Heavy Metal. The studios will team up to produce a 30-minute show before shopping it to networks. The name Rat Queens might not mean much to you now, but with Image’s pedigree, there is little doubt that the potential is there.
