A group of crafty robbers decided to go work while the rest of New York City was preoccupied with Fourth of July fireworks, sawing a hole in the ceiling of a Lower East Side bank and stealing cash from the vault.
The New York Post reports that the criminals accessed the roof by scaling a construction site near the Popular Community Bank. Once inside, they broke into a vault and made off with an undisclosed amount of money. Police gathered at the scene to take pictures of a fence that had been cut open, as well as the ladder which led to the roof.
According to the Post, it took "at least" an hour to create the hole.
