In Atari's never-ending quest to regain relevancy in the video game industry, they have announced what may be their strangest move yet. A couple weeks ago, we reported that Atari had detailed a comeback strategy for their brand that would include bringing their old classics like Breakout and Asteroids to the iOS and Android platforms. As I said, "If it is Atari's intention to revive franchises like these, than they'll need to find a way to make the mobile versions particularly compelling or unique from the original versions. As of now, you can find playable browser versions of any of these titles simply by Googling them. Atari will have to be at their most canny and creative in order to right the ship."

It appears that Atari has found their answer, and if you asked them how they felt about it, they'd probably tell you that it's a grand slam. Rather, a Grand Slam, like the kind you can get at Denny's. Why? Because the popular fast-food breakfast chain is now partnered with Atari to produce breakfast-themed video games modelled after old classics like Centipede, Breakout, and Asteroids.

As you can see from the pictures above, these collaborations are gobsmacking. Denny's and Atari will be referring to them as a menu of "Greatest Hits Remixed," re-shaping the aformentioned video games into titles like Centipup, Hashteroids, and Take-Out. According to a statement from Atari, the games will features "flying hash browns and syrup bottle shooters." We cannot contain our excitement nor our cholesterol levels. If you're equally intrigued you can now play these games on your iOS or Android phone by downloading the Denny's mobile app.

Speaking on the arrangement, Atari CEO Fred Chenais stated, "We are excited to be partnering with Denny’s on this partnership. Transforming our classic and beloved games into a retro, remixed promotion will be a natural way to expose our brand to a new generation and resonate with our long-time fans in a fun and unique way."

Will this move give Atari the boost it needs to accrue capital and regain its footing within the industry? Of course, this is only the first step in their comeback strategy, but regardless, we remain skeptical. What are your thoughts?
