"Homeland" Season 4 Details Revealed

"Homeland" showrunner Alex Gansa has revealed a number of details about the upcoming fourth season.

SPOILER ALERT: IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN SEASON 3 OF HOMELAND, FEEL FREE TO SKIP THIS ONE.

OK, now that we’ve got that out of the way, we can dive into the details of Season 4 of Homeland as revealed to EW by showrunner Alex Gansa. There are going to be a lot of changes coming to the show, especially with a huge new cast surrounding regulars Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin.

It seems that a common thread throughout the season will be a pregnant Carrie (Danes) dealing with the death of baby daddy/American “traitor” Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis)—who was publicly hanged at the end of Season 3—in the only way she knows how: getting back to work. According to Gansa, “We’re going to see what an intelligence officer does on the ground” as Carrie spends time in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Among the other details we got:

  • Six months have passed since the end of Season 3, meaning Carrie has given birth. Where’s the baby? No, not fighting terrorists; the child’s whereabouts will be explained early on.
  • Saul no longer works for the CIA, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t overseas doing stuff. He and Carrie may be meeting under much different circumstances than when he was her boss.
  • Andrew Lockhart is now the director of the CIA, and will be the one Carrie incessantly fights with.
  • Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi) will play a medical student who becomes “a significant person of interest” to Carrie.

And, perhaps best of all…

  • “Right now there are no plans for [Dana Brody]” to return.
