Things are about to get a little strange for Joaquin Phoenix, as in, he might be playing Marvel’s Doctor Strange.
The Marvel character begins as a run-of-the-mill neurosurgeon who later becomes Sorcerer Supreme after a series of unfortunate events. It then becomes his duty to protect the Earth from all threats using his sorcery and martial arts.
Before Phoenix, actors rumored to be up for the role included Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy, and Jared Leto.
Audiences can see Phoenix next in Inherent Vice premiering at the New York Film Festival.
