Man Bitten by Great White Shark Off Manhattan Beach Pier in Southern California

Witnesses say the man was in the wrong place at the wrong time. That's an understatement.

A man was bitten by a great white shark off Manhattan Beach Pier yesterday, officials say.

The Associated Press reports that the man sustained the bite on the right side of his body around 9:30 a.m. as the shark tried to free itself from a fisherman's hook. The 7-foot shark reportedly grew "agitated" after spending 30 minutes trying to escape from the hook.

The fisherman eventually cut the line, dragged the victim into his boat, and took him to shore where paramedics treated him for non life-threatening injuries. LAFD spokesman Rick Flores told the Associated Press that the shark stayed in the area for about 20 minutes before swimming away.
