A New York man accidentally killed a friend with his car after the woman told him she thought he was too drunk to drive, authorities say.

According to the Associated Press, police in Suffolk County say Krystal Berkowitz, 21, has exited the car of 23-year-old Lawrence Pagano around 4 a.m. Saturday morning in Setauket, N.Y. because she thought he was too drunk to drive. Pagano reportedly struck Berkowitz with his car as he attempted to pull over and talk to her.

Pagano called 911, but Berkowitz was pronounced dead at the scene. He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.
