Deadline is reporting that Patrick Wilson, Matt Gerard (The Shield, Dexter) and Kevin Weisman (Alias, Hello Ladies)  have dropped out of the upcoming Marvel Studios film Ant-Man.

Their departures come in the wake of the news that writer/director Edgar Wright had left the movie, but Marvel told Deadline that it's unrelated.

Gerard and Weisman's characters were apparently written out of the script as things continued to change, and Wilson had a scheduling conflict crop up because of the delays in the shooting schedule for Ant-Man. It was never confirmed who Wilson would have played, but many speculated it would be Darren Cross.

Michael Douglas is still signed on to play genius scientist Hank Pym and Paul Rudd remains in the title role. Peyton Reed has signed on to direct.

Marvel Studios will probably reveal more Ant-Man details during San Diego Comic Con. The Marvel panel happens on Saturday.

It would have been Wilson's first return to the comic book world since he played Nite Owl in the DC adaptation Watchmen.
